Ingredients

  • 1 head white cabbage, leaves softened by boiling
  • For filling: 500g pork mince, 1 cup cooked rice, 1 onion chopped, 3 garlic cloves, 1 tsp marjoram, salt and pepper
  • For sauce: 1 can chopped tomatoes, 2 tbsp tomato paste, 500ml stock, 1 tbsp vinegar, 1 tsp sugar, 2 bay leaves, 1 onion sliced, 3 tbsp oil
  • Soured cream and dill to serve

Instructions

  1. Boil whole cabbage 8 minutes to soften leaves; peel off.
  2. Mix filling.
  3. Place spoonfuls on cabbage leaves; roll tightly.
  4. Make sauce: soften onion in oil; add tomato, paste, stock, vinegar, sugar and bay.
  5. Layer holubtsi in a pot; pour sauce over.
  6. Simmer covered very gently 2 hours.
  7. Serve with soured cream and dill.
