Korean Beef Bulgogi

Ingredients

  • 800g beef sirloin, very thinly sliced
  • For marinade: 1 Korean pear (or apple) grated, 1 onion grated, 5 tbsp soy sauce, 3 tbsp brown sugar, 2 tbsp sesame oil, 4 garlic cloves crushed, 1 thumb ginger grated, 1 tsp black pepper, 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 3 spring onions
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Lettuce leaves to serve
  • Steamed rice

Instructions

  1. Mix marinade ingredients.
  2. Add the beef; massage well; rest at least 4 hours, overnight ideally.
  3. Heat oil in a wok very hot.
  4. Stir-fry beef in batches 2-3 minutes per batch.
  5. Toss in spring onion in the last 30 seconds.
  6. Serve immediately.
  7. Diners wrap pieces in lettuce with rice.
