Venezuelan Tequeños

Ingredients

  • 400g flour
  • 1 egg
  • 60g butter
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 120ml warm water
  • 300g white cheese (halloumi or mozzarella), in sticks
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, egg, butter, sugar, salt and water into a smooth dough; rest 30 minutes.
  2. Roll thin and cut into long strips 2cm wide.
  3. Wrap each cheese stick spirally with a strip, sealing the ends.
  4. Fry in 170C oil for 2-3 minutes until deep golden.
  5. Drain.

  • Seal the ends well or the cheese leaks.
  • Eat immediately while cheese is molten.

Serving suggestions

  • Serve with guasacaca or salsa rosada.
