Greek Baklava

Ingredients

  • 1 packet filo pastry
  • 300g mixed nuts (walnuts, pistachios), chopped
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 150g butter, melted
  • For syrup: 200g sugar, 150ml water, 4 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Mix the nuts with the cinnamon.
  2. Layer half the filo in a buttered tin, brushing each sheet.
  3. Spread the nuts, then layer the rest of the filo, brushing each.
  4. Cut into diamonds and bake at 170C for 45 minutes until golden.
  5. Simmer the syrup ingredients for 10 minutes.
  6. Pour the cool syrup over the hot baklava and let it soak.
