Churros

Crispy, ridged Spanish-Mexican fried dough rolled in cinnamon sugar — served with thick hot chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 250ml water
  • 60g butter
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 150g plain flour
  • 1 egg
  • Oil for frying
  • For coating: 100g sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Bring the water, butter, sugar and salt to a boil.
  2. Add the flour all at once and beat into a smooth dough.
  3. Cool slightly, then beat in the egg.
  4. Pipe lengths into 175C oil through a star nozzle.
  5. Fry for 2-3 minutes until deep golden.
  6. Drain and toss in cinnamon sugar.
