East African Mandazi

Ingredients

  • 500g plain flour
  • 100g sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 egg
  • 200ml warm milk
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder and cardamom.
  2. Add egg, milk and oil; knead to a soft dough.
  3. Rest 30-60 minutes.
  4. Roll thin and cut into triangles.
  5. Fry in medium-hot oil until puffed and golden, turning.
  6. Drain on paper.
