Jamaican Beef Patties

Ingredients

  • For pastry: 400g flour, 1 tsp turmeric, 200g cold butter, 1 tsp salt, cold water
  • For filling: 500g beef mince, 1 onion, 3 spring onions, 2 garlic, 1 tsp curry powder, 1 tsp thyme, 1 tsp allspice, 1 scotch bonnet, 1 cup breadcrumbs, 100ml stock
  • 1 egg for glazing

Instructions

  1. Make the pastry: rub the butter into flour with turmeric and salt, add water to bring together; chill 30 minutes.
  2. Cook the filling: brown the mince with onions, garlic and spices; mix in breadcrumbs and stock to a damp mix.
  3. Roll the pastry, cut into rounds, fill, fold and crimp the edges.
  4. Brush with egg.
  5. Bake at 200C for 25-30 minutes until golden.
