American Biscuits and Gravy

Ingredients

  • For biscuits: 300g flour, 1 tbsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt, 100g cold butter cubed, 250ml buttermilk
  • For gravy: 400g pork sausage meat, 3 tbsp flour, 600ml milk, black pepper, salt

Instructions

  1. Make the biscuits: rub the butter into the flour, baking powder and salt; stir in buttermilk to a soft dough.
  2. Pat out and cut rounds; bake at 220C for 12-15 minutes.
  3. For the gravy, brown the sausage meat in a pan.
  4. Sprinkle in the flour and stir 1 minute.
  5. Slowly whisk in the milk; simmer until thick.
  6. Season with plenty of pepper.
  7. Split the biscuits and smother with gravy.
