German Apple Strudel

Ingredients

  • 1 packet filo pastry (or homemade strudel dough)
  • 5 apples (Bramley or Cox), peeled and sliced
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 100g sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 100g raisins
  • 100g breadcrumbs
  • 60g butter, melted
  • 50g chopped almonds
  • Icing sugar

Instructions

  1. Toss apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon and raisins.
  2. Fry breadcrumbs in butter until golden.
  3. Lay 4 filo sheets overlapping, brushing each with butter.
  4. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs and almonds.
  5. Pile apple filling along one long edge.
  6. Roll up carefully; transfer to a tray seam-down.
  7. Brush with butter.
  8. Bake at 200C for 30-40 minutes until deep golden.
  9. Dust generously with icing sugar.
