Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 500g pork or beef mince
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 egg
  • For sauce: 1 can chopped tomatoes, 200ml stock, 1 tbsp paprika
  • Oil

Instructions

  1. Core cabbage; boil whole in salted water 8 minutes, then peel off softened leaves.
  2. Mix mince with rice, fried onion, garlic, paprika, egg, salt and pepper.
  3. Place a spoonful on each leaf; tuck sides and roll.
  4. Arrange seam-side down in a baking dish.
  5. Pour over the tomato sauce.
  6. Cover and bake at 180C for 75-90 minutes.

Tara’s tips

  • Trim the thick rib for easy rolling.
  • Cook long enough for cabbage to be very tender.

Serving suggestions

  • Lovely with mashed potato.
